Dara’s parents hold British, Iranian and Dutch nationality between them, but it has been impossible to pass on even one of them to Dara. The municipality of Amsterdam registered Dara as British, like his father, Simon. But to actually grant him British nationality, Great Britain requires proofs that simply don’t exist. His mother Sara is unable to pass on her Iranian nationality as this is prohibited under Iranian law. And thanks to a mountain of misinformation at the Dutch civil service, Dara doesn’t have Dutch nationality yet either. Dara is now 15 months old.
